The recording of this Chinese artist happened
during a very cold evening in December 2004, when I visited
Shanghai. It happened spontaneously in a pedestrian tunnel in The
Bund vicinity. The musician was a thin man in his late 50s, with a
kind expression in his eyes. I asked for his permission to make the
recording with signs and gestures. Since I was carrying a newly
bought flute, just like the one he was using in his performance, we
‘talked’ for a while, smiling and pointing.
